Style and Attitude for New Year’s Eve

The New Year’s Eve, what a beautiful time to release its glitz, take out its panoply of “Femme Fatale” while not sinking into the “too much” and make a difference with some well mixed accessories.

In France we use the expression “se mettre sur son 31” literally “to get in its 31” which means to dress up, to get all fix up, a French expression that comes back to the Middle Ages.

Here are some tips to succeed in your New Year’s Eve…

Take out the sequins

After all, it’s party time and everything is allowed and possible. We are still have our good resolutions for the new year, we have the wind in our sails, we want 2018 (again) to be brilliant; because we know that this year, oui oui this year will be the good one and we want to shine in all areas (sentimental, professional, and social).

What could be more natural to prove it with some glitter we have carefully chosen: leave your little black dress in the closet and take out the sequins with a dress, a top, a jacket or pants. The most important it’s knowing your own figure, choosing the finest part of your body to wear the sequins, and matching the sequins with basics. The result will be more than breathtaking.

I can’ t say this enough, but less is more, we do not want to be confused with the Christmas tree, just opt for a natural makeup and let the glitter do its work .

Au naturel

You do not like sequins and you prefer to bet on discretion? Don’t panic. Focus simply on accessories: a nice pair of high heels, a pretty little clutch, an oversize ring or a glitter nail polish will do the trick to sparkle your evening and titillate the heart of your lover or lovers.

Your natural beauty is your asset, choose a natural makeup, a nice touch of pencil on your eyebrows to emphasise your sparkling eyes and you’ve done the hard part.

Know your bubbles

On New Year’s Eve, for the French, we are pretty serious with Champagne. Oui oui I do speak about Champagne and not about sparkling (read my interview with Floriane Eznack, oenologist, wine maker and Chef de Cave at Champagne Jaquart). We all know that bad champagne gives us a headache and we definitely want to be awake all night. The choice of Champagne is made between friends, we do not skimp on the price and we want the best. Ok for bubbles but not just any bubbles…

Spend a “nuit blanche” and take a Uber early in the morning

Ok to drink champagne but be responsible. After all this is a part of our new resolutions for the new year. We opt for the French touch with an evening with friends until the dawn, we sleep at friends’ place or friends sleep at home, a great opportunity to start the year in style with a “petit déjeuner” surrounded by people we cherish.

Style with attitude

Obviously because we all know the outfit is not everything, we sport its je-ne-sais-quoi and we affirm its femininity. Pin-up, “sainte nitouche” (goody goody), bitch, intellectual, glamorous, boyish or frightened virgin, in short we find style with attitude and we like it.

You will may have understood, the attitude is your best accessory to find your style. Master of your style and not prisoner of fashion, you will mark the spirits with your personality.
